Gene A. Cook, 86, of Creston, passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Celebration of Life Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 23, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Creston. Services will be livestreamed at www.youtube.com/@trinitylutheranchurchcrest2300. Pastor John Rutz will officiate. Burial will be in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter. Military rites will be by Theodore J. Martens, Creston VFW Post #1797. Open visitation will be 2-7 p.m., with family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston.

Gene Arden Cook was born Dec. 27, 1938, to Lynn Cook and Bernice (Bergen) Cook in Warren, Minnesota. He graduated from Warren High School in 1956 and continued with some college before entering the U.S. Navy, serving during the Philippine Conflict, stationed in Okinawa as a Radioman general on the USS Midway.
On June 25, 1961, Gene was united in marriage to Dorothy Alice Goeglein in Yuma, Colorado. They lived in Greeley, Colorado, until 1978, where Gene worked with computers at Monfort Feed Lots. They moved to Creston in 1978, where he worked as a computer programmer, retiring from Kraft/Trolli in 2005.
Gene had a very strong faith. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Creston, serving as an elder, reader, board of trustees member and greeter for many years. Gene was young at heart and had a great sense of humor. Every Christmas he brought a big bag of stuffed animals for his grandchildren. He loved fishing, trips to Colorado, Minnesota Vikings and Denver Broncos football games and camping with his family.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy Cook of Creston; three sons: Randy (Joni) Cook of Creston and their children, Ryan (Stephanie) Cook, Kaleb Cook and Jacob (Briana) Cook, Greg (Brenda) Cook of Creston and their children, Codie (Nikki) Cook, Skylar Cook, Abbie Cook (significant other Will) and Alyssa Cook and Jeff (Kristin) Cook of Nevada and their children, Kylie Cook (significant other Brian) and Kaitlyn Cook (significant other Aidan); one daughter, Denise (Jason) Riley of Afton and their children, Danielle Riley (significant other Christian), Cassidy (Bobby) Hepner and Alexandria (Ryan) Thompson; eight great-grandchildren; brother Jerry (Sharon) Cook of Overland Park, Kansas; two sisters-in-law, Mildred Miller of Fort Collins, Colorado, and Marilyn Goeglein of Yuma, Colorado, many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers-in-law, Elmer Miller, Eugene (Melva Lee) Goeglein and Kenny Goeglein; sisters-in-law, Linda (Jim) Huyghebaert and Betty Mills; nephew, Robert Haynes and niece, Kristi Appelhans.
