Harriet Palmer, 92, of Creston, passed away Thursday, April 10, 2025, at her daughter’s home in Corning. Celebration of Life Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, April 13, at First Baptist Church in Creston. Pastor Dave Tebbenkamp will officiate. Services will be livestreamed. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery. Open visitation, with family receiving friends, will be 1:30-3 p.m. Sunday, before the service.

Harriet Jennie Kilgore was born April 8, 1933, to Charles Jerry Kilgore and Daisy Mildred (Brown) Kilgore in Ringgold County. She attended school in Mount Ayr, graduating from Mount Ayr High School in 1951.
On Oct. 19, 1952, she was united in marriage to Earl Raymond Young at her family home in Shannon City. She was a farmwife and active helpmate to her husband, tending to large gardens, pigs, cows and tending to the farrowing house. She also helped with milking cows and did lots of baking and cooking. Earl died in 1983. Harriet then worked at Green Valley Butcher Shop, then Bunn O-Matic for 10 years and cleaned houses.
On Dec. 17, 1987, she was united in marriage to Wayne Palmer in Des Moines. They lived and worked in Creston. Wayne died in 2006. Harriet was a member of the First Baptist Church in Creston.
Survivors include her daughter Carmen (Dan) Dahl of Corning; her sons, Jerry (Sue) Young of Afton, Dale (Monica) Young of Cromwell; stepchildren, Gloria Faust, Glenda (Bob) Reasoner, Gayle (Julie) Palmer, Garen (Carolyn) Palmer, Garla (Monte) LaFoulette and Garry Palmer; 26 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, with two on the way; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Harriet was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Earl Young and Wayne Palmer; her daughter Connie (Butch) Lauffer; her sisters, Dorothea (John) Collier and Eloise (Louis) White.
