Craig Wesley Waters, 78, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2025, at his home in Greenfield. A longtime resident of Lorimor, Craig was born on April 14, 1946, to Richard and Ruth Arlene Waters in Indianola.
Craig worked as a commercial truck driver for most of his career, a job that took him many places and provided him with a sense of accomplishment and purpose. Outside of work, Craig was passionate about caring for his animals and tending to his garden on his small farm.
Growing up in the 1950s, Craig faced the challenges of dyslexia during a time when the condition was not well understood. The educational system presented its difficulties, but Craig persevered, eventually purchasing a small farm and building a career as a truck driver. His strength in overcoming adversity continues to inspire those who face similar challenges.
Though known for his rugged nature, Craig later found faith and became a compassionate, grateful and caring person who appreciated connecting with others and found joy in caring for his dog, Loretta.
Craig was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ralph and Mable Waters and John and Clara Lucas; his father Richard Waters; his sister Sheila Turnis; his cousin Randi Crawford and his beloved wife Rita Waters.
Craig is survived by his mother, Ruth Arlene Waters, age 103; his sisters, Kayla (Ed) Harney, Vicki Goldsmith and Sue (Larry) Brawe; 14 nieces and nephews and 27 great-nieces and -nephews. Craig’s legacy of strength, dedication and kindness will be remembered by his family, friends and the lives he touched.
A Celebration of Life will be held 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at 107 SE 4th St. in Greenfield.
His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, and his presence will be deeply missed. Until we meet again, rest in peace my friend.
