Lloyd L. Jones was born May 9, 1928, to William Jones and Hazel Irene (Hullinger) Jones on a farm near Tingley. He passed peacefully at home on Feb. 27. He was the oldest of 11 children and all who knew him knew he took his role as the oldest sibling seriously. He was the first born of the siblings and the last to depart this life.

He attended county school and graduated from Ellston High School in 1947. When in school, he and his brothers Bob and David had a band that played weekly at square dances. Lloyd played guitar, Bob played banjo and David played piano.

In 1949, he married Maxine M. Abell. To this union, one son was born, Jerry Jones. The two lived and farmed in the Tingley area. Maxine passed away in June 1950.

On April 18, 1953, Lloyd was united in marriage to Mary Evva Hazen in Bethany, Missouri. Lloyd met Mary when his younger brother Curt was ill at school. Lloyd picked him up and Mary was his teacher. To this union, three daughters were born, Diane Riley, Linda Preston and Donna Criss. Mary passed Aug. 19, 2018, after 65 years of marriage.

Lloyd served in the Army from 1951 through 1953, during the Korean conflict. During this time he was stationed in Alaska. Lloyd and Mary returned to Alaska in 1995, and he was able to tour the base where he had been stationed.

Lloyd had a varied career history from auctioneering to sales, to building farm confinement buildings to farming. He ended his career as the water treatment manager for the city of Afton.

Lloyd and Mary retired in 1993 and extensively traveled the United States in the RV. They wintered in Texas for many years.

During retirement, Lloyd discovered his love of woodworking, gifting family and friends with many beautifully crafted wood creations. He often said “If you can describe it, I can make it.”

Survivors include his children: Jerry (Patti) Jones, Diane Riley and Linda Preston, all of Creston and Donna (Skyler) Criss of Milton, Florida; seven grandchildren: Jason (Denise) Riley, Jodi Riley (Bruce Cross), Sara (Matt) Snitker, Seth (Jessica) Preston, Cory (Bobbie) Preston, Levi (Charlotte) Criss and Josh (Amanda) Criss; 14 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his wives, Maxine in 1950 and Mary in 2018; his parents, William and Hazel Jones; his brothers, Bob, David (Genora), Curt, Ken and Gene; sisters, Mary (Jean) Collier, Millie Pittman, Marge (Jim) Thomas, Maxine McGilvrey and Martha Jones; sons-in-law, Lonny Riley and Wayne Preston.
