Walter R. Herbel

Walter Ray Herbel, 73, of Winterset, passed away Sunday, Jan. 16, 2025, in Phoenix, Arizona. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to be determined by the family.

Walt was born March 1, 1951, to Goldie (Perkins) and Walter Herbel in Des Moines. Walt’s life was his wife, children and grandchildren. They were everything to him.

Those surviving to honor his memory are his wife, Kay (Lund), who were united in marriage April 7, 1979; his sons, Jamie (Emily), Robert (Nickia), Jason and Cameron (Diane); his pride and joy grandchildren, Kayla, Kiersten, Grayson, Gavin, Elias, Collin, Madison, Ben, Tanner and Colton; soon to be great-grandson, Walker Blake Ray and his sisters, Connie and Peggy (Dave).

He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Jim and Janet; sister, Phyllis and brothers-in-law, Larry and Bob.
