David Loos, 73, of Lamoni, formerly of Creston, died Friday, Feb. 14, 2025, at the Lamoni Specialty Care in Lamoni. A private Celebration of Life will be held by Dave’s family. Burial will be in Moon Cemetery, near Macksburg, at a later date.

David Dean Loos was born Sept. 28, 1951, the son of Raymond Dean Loos and Shirley Ann (Jennings) Loos in Bradgate. He attended Creston Community High School and graduated with the class of 1970. He continued his education by attending Southwestern Community College and graduating with an associate’s degree. While attending, Dave was active in baseball and basketball. He continued playing both baseball and basketball while attending John F. Kennedy College in Nebraska. He then earned his bachelor’s degree in education.
In his early career, he lived in Dallas, Texas, while attending Southern Methodist University. After graduation, he worked for Texas Instruments. Later, he took the position of assistant superintendent of the Las Colinas Sports Club in Dallas. It was there he met many famous golfers and prominent people. In 1980, Dave returned to Creston where he held a variety of jobs. He worked at DJ’s Golf & Bowl and Pine Valley. He was also involved in the school district, holding jobs such as a substitute teacher and coaching volleyball, baseball and basketball at the junior varsity and varsity levels.
On July 6, 1991, David was united in marriage to Janet Louise Wheeler at Pine Valley in Creston. After marriage, Dave opened the Whistlestop Creamery in Earlham. In 1995, he returned to school at Southwestern Community College and completed the L.P.N. program. In 2000, he obtained his Long Term Administration License. With this license, Dave became an administrator for various care centers in Kansas, fixing deficiencies and investigating problems. He retired in 2020 from this position.
Surviving Dave is his wife, Janet Loos of Lamoni; two sons, William Dean Loos (partner Elizabeth Howe) and Anthony David Loos, both of West Des Moines; stepdaughters, Jerri (Mike) Murren of Lamoni and Kasi (Mark) Haines of Topeka, Kansas; three brothers, Mike (Michele) Loos of Council Bluffs, Steve (Cathy) Loos of Green Valley, Arizona, and Paul (Jackie) Loos of Storm Lake; three sisters, Debbie Hoselton of Des Moines, Janet Parten of Fort Worth, Texas, and Dorothy Woodcock of Osceola; sisters-in-law, Susan Loos of Texas and Shirley Lattig of Macksburg; five grandchildren: Tara, Noble, Emerson, Kaylyn and Tyler; five great-grandchildren; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Shirley Loos; brother, Raymond Loos; brother-in-law, Kenneth Parten, and his sister Dorothy’s partner, Darrell Reed.
