Charles Joseph Huddleson, 81, of Orient, died Friday, Jan. 31, 2025, surrounded by his family, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. A Celebration of Life Service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. The service will be livestreamed at a link under events at powersfh.com. Pastor Sheila Sutton will officiate. Burial will be in Zion Cemetery, east of Orient. Open visitation will be 2 to 7 p.m., with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 4, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston.

Charles Joseph Huddleson, son of Ernest “Jack” Henry Huddleson and Mildred Lucille (Bowerbank) Huddleson, was born April 17, 1943, in Zion. He attended Zion School from kindergarten through ninth grade; Orient School for 10th and 11th grades and graduated from Orient-Macksburg High School in 1962.
On Oct. 28, 1962, Charles was united in marriage to Monica Kaye McCall at the Congregational Church in Fontanelle. Charles was a farmer all of his life. He and Monica lived in the Zion area all of their married life, with the last 58 years at their location. Charles worked at the Orient Sale Barn for a couple of winters and also drove a truck for J & J Delivery for over 10 years with his wife.
Charles attended Hill of Zion Church until it closed, then attended the Lorimor United Methodist Church. Charles dearly loved his family and went out of his way to go to school events, 4-H activities, dance recitals, hunting, fishing, farming and thrived on as much time enjoying his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids.
Surviving Charles is his wife, Monica Huddleson of Orient; his children: Peni (Jeff) Tussey of Creston; Joann (Dennis Slavin) Huddleson of Urbandale, John (Dahna) Huddleson of Des Moines and Traci (Greg) Broyles of Independence, Missouri; sisters, Dixie Shinkle of Afton and Roxann Huddleson of California; a brother, Ernest “Cork” Huddleson Jr. of Bremen, Alabama; brothers-in-law, Gary McCall of Burlington and Jon (Jelen) McCall of Mount Pleasant; sisters-in-law, Donna Huddleson of Bremen, Alabama, Pam (Ron) Hunter of Salt Lake City, Utah, Candace (Tim) Licko of Mediapolis and Karla (Wolfgang) Benninghoven of Solon; 18 grandkids: Jill Tussey of Orient, Nick (Alicia) Tussey of Creston, Zac (Siddney) Huddleson of Afton, Bailee (Shamari Little) Huddleson of Des Moines, Kelsi (Jamie) Calfas, Kody Broyles, Chris (Juelles) Baber of Atlantic, Kayla (Joe) Waltz of Winterset, Allie (Ben) Mongar of Des Moines, Lacey Olsen and Chance Young of Illinois; Taryn (Yuichi) Ishida of Des Moines and Brent Young (grandson by heart) of Fargo, North Dakota; 16 great-grandchildren: Brynn and Jensan Tussey of Creston, Ranger, Charlie and Quinn Huddleson of Afton; Samora and Jesai Little of Des Moines; Marli and Barrett Calfas of Independence, Missouri, Ryan and Hanna Baber of Atlantic, Lily and Melody Waltz of Winterset, Malachi, Maia and Jack Olsen of Illinois, Ian, Ava and Asa Young of Illinois, and Wyatt, Haddie and Cohan Young of Fargo, North Dakota; many other nieces, nephews, cousins and additional family.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Harry “Case” Huddleson and James (in infancy); a sister, Shirley (in infancy); brothers-in-law, John Shinkle, Terrill McCall and Mikel McCall and sisters-in-law: Tommie Huddleson, Jeanne McCall and Debbie McCall Richart.
