Vickie Stephens, 74, of Creston, died Monday, Dec. 16, 2024, at Greater Regional Health in Creston.

Vickie Stephens, 74, of Creston, died Monday, Dec. 16, 2024, at Greater Regional Health in Creston. Celebration of Life Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 20, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Pastor Mary O’Riley will officiate. Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery. Services will be livestreamed at a link under her obituary at powersfh.com. Open visitation, with family receiving friends, will be 9-11 a.m. Friday, prior to the service.

Vickie Lea Stephens was born Jan. 13, 1950, to Clifford Dale Blazek and Beth Joanne (Foley) Blazek in Creston. She grew up in Creston, graduating from Creston High School in 1968. While in high school, Vickie was an active baton twirler and was also involved in the school choir, musicals, high school theatre and was honored to be crowned as Union County Fair Queen in 1967. Vickie continued her education by attending AIB and graduated in 1969 with a secretarial degree. In 1969, she began working for Iowa Paints in Des Moines until 1972.

On July 15, 1972, she was united in marriage to Dannie Stephens at Cromwell Church. She then worked for Union County as the deputy treasurer. After moving to Bedford she served as the deputy treasurer for Page County.

Vickie and Dannie were blessed with three sons – Shamus, Shane and Shaun. She enjoyed being an active homemaker, mother and a very loving supporter of her husband’s work and hobbies. In 1983, she went back to work outside the home at FMHA Service, now known as FSA. Later, Vickie was an active grandmother, attending school plays and musicals, horse shows and sporting events. Vickie retired from FSA in 2015.

She enjoyed quilting, daily walks, attending plays and musicals and participating in a few productions with the Creston Community theatre, exercising at the YMCA, attending yoga classes at Radiant Wellness Solutions, music, dancing and tending to her flower gardens.

Vickie was a lifetime member of Cromwell Church, serving as the clerk for church council, a member of Women’s Fellowship and Southern Prairie Family Fitness Center.

Survivors include her husband, Dannie Stephens of Creston; three sons: Shamus (Jen) Stephens, of Pleasantville, Shane Stephens of Creston and Shaun Stephens of Creston; her brother, Steven (Tammy) Blazek of Adel; two sisters, Linda (Steve) Marley of Creston and Barb (Dave) Murtha of Creston; one brother-in-law, Reggie Stephens of Creston; sisters-in-law Kathie Bryant (Gene Dwyer) of New Orleans, Louisiana, Dixie Stephens (Kim Grytdahl) of Las Vegas, Nevada, Shellie (Steve) Billing of Grimes and Julie (Bob) DeYoung of Lawrence, Kansas, and three grandchildren: Colten (Hannah) Stephens of St. Joseph, Missouri, Grace Stephens of Maryville, Missouri, and John Ross Stephens of Pleasantville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her nephew, Beau Marley and her father in-law, John Ross Stephens.
