Kathryn Jean Greenbeck was born May 10, 1952, the daughter of Melvin Earl “Greenie” Greenbeck and Marian J. (Beaman) Greenbeck in Greenfield. She graduated from Greenfield High School with the class of 1970. She furthered her education at Southwestern Community College.
Kathy was united in marriage to Marvin Lee Bunkofske on Aug. 28, 1971, in Greenfield. They settled in Creston and became lifelong residents. She worked at Greater Regional Medical Center in the medical records department for many years until her retirement in 2017. Throughout the years Kathy was an active mother and member of the Creston Women’s Bowling Association and the Women’s Crest Baptist Bible Study Group.
Marvin was the love of Kathy’s life, they enjoyed bowling and playing slow pitch softball, but their greatest joy was watching their girls in all of their activities - traveling to every game possible. Rarely, if ever, missing a game, cheering on the whole team and earning the mom and dad title from many honorary children. Their love for their children’s activities continued with their grandchildren, attending as many activities as they could until their health wouldn’t allow it. Kathy was one of the loudest cheerleaders in the stands with her loud, distinct whistle and almost as loud yells! Kathy didn’t know a stranger-the stereotype of “Chatty Kathy” definitely fit her! She would never pass up the opportunity to say hi to a child or love on a puppy, both always brought a smile to her face.
Kathy is survived by her two daughters, Nicole “Nicki” Bunkofske of Adel and Teresa “Teri” Keeler of Creston; grandchildren, Sara and Daile Keeler, Avery Bunkofske, Tony (Sheena) Keeler and Scott Keeler (Linda Pena), as well as several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many other “kids.”
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin Bunkofske in 2018; grandson, Brenden Lee Keeler; sister, Joanie Jackson; brother, John Greenbeck; sisters-in-law, Gloria Patterson and Dianne Dillard; brothers-in-law, William Patterson and Gary Jackson; nephew, Michael Dean Patterson and father- and mother-in-law, Clarence and Marjorie Bunkofske.
