Steve Ripperger, 74, of Creston, died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2024, at the VA Central Iowa Health Care System in Des Moines. A Celebration of Life service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 6, at Powers Funeral Home, 612 N. Dodge St., Afton. Fr. Patrick Amedeka will officiate. Burial will be in St. Edwards Cemetery in Afton, with military rites by Theodore J. Martens Creston V.F.W. Post 1797. Open visitation will be 2-7 p.m., with family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 5, at Powers Funeral Home in Afton.

Steven F. Ripperger, was born Nov. 9, 1950, the son of Raymond T. and Reva A. (Shawler) Ripperger in Creston. He graduated from East Union High School in 1969. Steve helped farm after high school. In April 1971, Steve began serving in the United States Army, later serving in Vietnam before his discharge in 1975.
Steve married Cynthia Sobotka, they later divorced. Steve worked at Bunn-O-Matic Corp. most of his working life. He retired from Bunn April 2015.
Steve is survived by his sister, Kathy Davis of Horseheads, New York; brother, Dan (Rayma) Ripperger of Afton; nine nieces and nephews: Jodie Skellenger, Julia Tilson, Pamela Dickinson, Rosemary Fortner, Cynthia Hauschildt, Susan Fobes, Tami Arnold, Gail Ripperger and Alex Ripperger and many extended family members.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dick Ripperger; two brothers-in-law, Turner Davis and Jack Prey and niece, Peggy Woodsmall.
