Arnold Sheriff, 85, of Orient, died Friday, Nov. 8, 2024, at the Community Care Center in Stuart. Celebration of life services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, at Orient United Methodist Church in Orient. Pastor John Van Nostrand will officiate. The family encourages those attending to wear something John Deere green, it you have it. Flag presentation will be provided by the Theodore J. Martens Post 1797 from Creston. The burial will be in Hill of Zion Cemetery, east of Orient. Open visitation, with the family to receive friends, will be 9 to 11:30 a.m., prior to service time at the Orient United Methodist Church.

Arnold Dean Sheriff was born March 13, 1939, to Isal Maye (Lake) Sheriff and W. Wayne Sheriff in Zion. Arnold graduated from Zion High School in 1957 and continued his education receiving a farm operations degree from Iowa State University. Arnold was an active member of 4-H growing up and was the first person from Adair County to win the Grand Champion Steer Show at the Iowa State Fair in 1953. Arnold served his country as a part of the United States Army.
On Sept. 24, 1960, Arnold was united in marriage to Melissa Lee Burns in Kirkwood, Missouri. They settled on the family farm, where Arnold was a lifelong farmer until he retired in 2021. Arnold was a lifelong member of the Hill of Zion Church. He also was a lifelong 4-H and FFA Booster, part of the Board of Directors for the Iowa Hereford Breeder’s Association, the Tri-state Hereford Breeder’s Association board of directors, the Adair County Soil Conservation Board, the Adair County Fair Board and Crest Land Co-op Board of Directors.
Arnold is survived by his wife, Melissa Sheriff of Orient; son, Brad Sheriff of Orient, (wife Pam) Sheriff of Rancho Cucamonga, California; daughter, Cindy Sheriff of Des Moines; two grandchildren, Alyssa (David) Bement and Parker Sheriff and one great-grandson, Ezra Bement.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Joyce (Sheriff) Williams.
