Kim Young, 71, of Kent, formerly of the Des Moines area, died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. A Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at Crest Baptist Church, 1211 N. Poplar St. in Creston. Pastor Neal McRae will officiate. No public burial is planned. Visitation, with family receiving friends, will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, before the service. Powers Funeral Home is assisting with the services.

Kim Allen Young was born Dec. 21, 1953, the son of Thomas Young and Patricia Ann (Morgan) Young. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in Des Moines and went on to earn a horticulture degree at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids. He went to work as a park ranger for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources at Fort Defiance, Ledges and finally at Walnut Woods State Park in West Des Moines. He worked for 28 years as an owner/operator of Young’s Nursery and Landscaping. More recent work included Michaelson and Son Masonry, then as a NPI security supervisor.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Young of Kent; a daughter, Katie (Cain) Goodenberger of Kent; two sons, Cory (Chelle) Young of Stuart and Casey Young of Kent; seven grandchildren: Brock, Cameren, Wyatt, Weston, Carter, Paisley and Carsen; two sisters, Linda Alexander of Johnston and Nancy (Fred) Baumann of Urbandale and many other extended family members.
Kim was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Kent Young.
