Arlene Carlson, 90, of Creston, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2024, at Greater Regional Health in Creston. A Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 12, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Father James Carlson will officiate the service. Services will be livestreamed. Burial will be in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter at a later date. Open visitation with family receiving friends will be from 10–11 a.m. Saturday, prior to the service at Powers Funeral Home in Creston.

Arlene Marie Carlson was born Feb. 15, 1934, the daughter of Marie M. (Vos) Stagray and Soloman Stagray, in Bay County, Michigan. She attended Essexville High School.
Arlene was united in marriage to Charles Edward Carlson Oct. 4, 1952, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Essexville, Michigan. To this union, three children were born, all sons: Mark, Guy and Rodney. They settled in Michigan.
Arlene moved to Creston in 1971 and continued working as an active mother and homemaker. Arlene enjoyed golfing, bowling and sewing for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, making baptismal gowns, Halloween costumes and baptismal bibs for Holy Spirit Catholic Church for 12 years. In retirement she moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1988, returning to Creston in 1991.
In 1997 Arlene moved to Orlando, Florida, before returning to Creston in 2001. In her retirement she enjoyed volunteering at the Catholic Rerun in Creston. Arlene was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Altar Society and Catholic Daughters of America.
Arlene is survived by her three sons, Mark (Leanne) Carlson of Des Moines, Guy (Connie) Carlson of Creston and Rodney Carlson of Creston; a brother, Gerald (Donna) Stagray of Essexville, Michigan; two sisters, Shirley Belski of Auburn, Michigan, and Theola Van Ochten of Essexville, Michigan; 12 grandchildren: Renee Millslagle, Brad (Cat) Carlson, Jamie (Marte) Carlson, Chad (Renee) Levi, Jeromy (Kerri) Levi, Tommy (Katie) Riley and Erica (Shelby) Kerpowski; 15 great-grandchildren: Paige Millslagle (Justin Miller), Cameron (Jay) Millslagle, Brendan, Maliya, Jerzie (Drew) Uding, Kelsey (Bryce) Shutt, Kerrigan, Maura, Raegan, Carson, Charlie, Elliette, Angelus, Lydia, Vincent Connett, Aliyah Carson, Ariella, AirAnna, Isabella and Ileana; one great-great-grandchild, Griffin, and another on the way, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles Carlson in 2023; three brothers: Elmer Stagray, Melvin Stagray and Herold (Rita) Stagray; three sisters: Madiline Tacekman, Elaine Sochachi and Deloris Van Ochten; seven brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law and a granddaughter, Victoria Connett.
