George was born April 14, 1953, in Creston and was raised on the family farm in Lorimor. George graduated from East Union High School in Afton in 1971. He attended college at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri, where he studied electronics. He furthered his college education in electrical engineering of communication systems at NIT of Des Moines, and received academic achievements. George retired in 2023 from Wells Fargo, after many attempts during his 25 dedicated years as a tech operation senior analyst.
George loved the outdoor life. As a kid growing up through the years, he helped his father work the farm. George helped with the farm chores without complaint from time spent on tractors in the fields to tending to animals. When it came to the horses, George helped train and break them.
After obtaining his education, George gained employment at Gateway in Sioux City, building computers, where he met and married Jodean, and Benjamin and Sarah were born. He taught them both how to hunt, fish and marksmanship. He would take them camping and taught them how to rough it with just tarps and teepees. He kept all kinds of records of the twins’ accomplishments. He would keep fish and deer photos taken of the twins and use them as screen savers at work, just to make people ask about them. George adored his grandchildren and often when he would visit, he liked nothing more than for them to comb his mustache with the comb he kept in his pocket.
George was a proud member of the NRA. He loved to reload his own ammunition for the rifles he cherished. George lived to gather with friends and family to shoot targets and hunt deer and his favorite, coyotes. After officially retiring, George would go to auctions all over the place and pick up old iron farming implements. George really loved driving on the back roads and visiting with his cherished neighbors and friends. There is always a special bond between a man and his dog. George and Waylon, an Australian/Red Healer personified this. George was a long life, die-hard fan of the Green Bay Packers.
George is survived by his twin children Benjamin Groesbeck (32) and Sarah Meget (32); his brother Dan Groesbeck; sisters, Esther Means and Ruth McDowell; his daughter-in-law, Amber Groesbeck and his lovely eight grandchildren.
George’s departure leaves an unfillable void in their lives, yet they find comfort in their memories and the love they shared for their brother, father and grandfather.
George is preceded by his parents, George and Maxine Groesbeck.
