Cathy J. “Katie” Dryden, 75, of Creston, died Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024, at Clearview Homes in Mount Ayr.

Cathy J. “Katie” Dryden, 75, of Creston, passed away peacefully Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024, at Clearview Homes in Mount Ayr, with extra loving care provided by EveryStep Hospice. Celebration of Life Services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 21, at Pearson Family Funeral Service & Cremation Center. Rev. Mary O’Riley will officiate. Visitation will be held from 2-6 p.m., with family to receive friends from 4-6 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home. Katie will be cremated following the service and be laid to rest in the Arcadia City Cemetery in Arcadia at a later date.

Cathy Jean (Kroeger) Dryden was born Aug. 13, 1949, the daughter of John J. Kroeger and Velma L. (Preyt) Kroeger in Carroll. She was one of three children to bless this union. Katie lived out her young life on the family farm in Arcadia. She was educated in AR-WE-VA schools and graduated from there in 1969. Later in life, Katie was blessed with her only son, Chad Thomas. They set out and took on life together.

In 1974, Katie began her career with the Iowa Department of Human Services in the Child Support Recovery Unit. Moving to Carroll in 1975 and later, her final move to Creston in 1979, where she made her home the remainder of her life. She worked tirelessly as the support recovery supervisor from 1974 until her retirement in 2010. She served as chairman for the law enforcement center and was a member of the Creston Eagles and Trinity Lutheran Church. Katie enjoyed traveling, crafts, motorcycling, friends, family and her job. She was a beautiful seamstress and quilter. She dearly loved her son Chad and her grandchildren Hannah and Casen.

Left to cherish her memory is her son, Chad Dryden (Tonya Brown) of Creston; her grandchildren, Hannah Dryden and Casen Dryden, both of Creston; her brother, Kerry (Chris) Kroeger of Glidden; a sister-in-law, Deb Kroeger of Carroll; many nieces, nephews and a community of friends.

Katie was preceded in death by her parents, John and Velma Kroeger and a brother, Kevin Kroeger.
