Rod Fry, 63, of Creston, died Sept. 11, 2024, at Greater Regional Health in Creston.

Rod Fry, 63, of Creston, died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2024, at Greater Regional Health in Creston. Celebration of Life Graveside Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at Graceland Cemetery in Creston. Pastor Tim Maxa will officiate. Open visitation will be 2-6 p.m., with family receiving friends from 4-6 p.m., Friday, Sept. 13, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are to be directed to the family. Online condolences may be made at www.powersfh.com.

Rodney Gale Fry was born Sept. 16, 1960, to Gale Francis Fry and Barbara Jean (Beardsley) Fry in Creston. He grew up in Creston and graduated from Creston High School in 1980, and later received his welding certification. Before graduation, Rod worked at Vanmark Equipment in Creston.

Rod was united in marriage to Susan Elizabeth Durand Nov. 21, 1981, at St. John’s church in Creston. To this union two children, Murphy and Bailey, were born. Rod and Sue later divorced.

Rod worked at Green Valley Chemical, Wellman Dynamic, did farmhand work and drove for Vane Lindsay and he did scrap and salvage work around the Creston area.

Survivors include his mother, Barbara Fry of Creston; his daughter, Bailey (Blake) Fry-Schnormeier of Creston; two sisters, Brenda Fry (Rita Riley) of Prescott and Dianna (Gary) McClarnon of Clarinda; two grandchildren, Austin Nguyen-Schnormeier and Leona Schnormeier; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Rod was preceded in death by his son, Murphy Fry in 2003 and his father, Gale Fry in 2021.
