Ruby Maye McDonald Dibel was born May 20, 1935, the ninth child of Jonathan and Viva (Leach) McDonald near Afton. Ruby married Carl Dibel in March 1954 and to this union three children were born. For many years they raised crops, children, registered quarter horses and were a summer destination for dozens of nieces, nephews and other youth.

Ruby was very well known for her cooking, chicken and noodles and cinnamon rolls just to mention a couple. She ran the Shamrock Cafe in Creston and later lunched many auctions in the Creston area. Her work with the County Youth Council sponsoring teen dances, the Girl Scouts and the Inner City program in Des Moines were just a few of her greatest accomplishments.

Ruby’s family finally was complete in late 1976 when her oldest daughter was reunited with her. Although Carl and Ruby divorced, they became friends again in later years. Her pride and joy was all of the wonderful hours she spent with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her great-great-grandson. Her family was the most important thing in her life. She remembered all of her nieces and nephews birthdays and spoke with them often.

Ruby was a people person. She loved and reached out to everyone she met. She will be greatly missed by many.

Ruby was preceded in death by her ex-husband Carl Dibel; son, John Dibel; great-grandson, Lane Michael McDaniel; seven brothers: Francis, LeRoy, Vern, JR, Dean, Wayne and Dale; three sisters: Leona, Eleanor and Bonnie and their spouses; several nieces and nephews.

Ruby is survived by her three daughters: Sylvia ‘Starr’ (John) Cain, Mary Lynn Wallace and Dorie Dibel; daughter-in-law, Karen Dibel; 10 grandchildren: Rikki Baine Devoe-Bailey, Mattie Baine, Jason Wallace, Travis (Amanda) Henley, April (Brian) McDaniel, Hilary (Andrew) Boden, Crystal (Bobby) Dabb, Rob (Sammi) Henley, Amanda Funke-Auten and Sara (Matthew) Konen; 19 great-grandchildren: Braxton (Tori) Wallace, Damon Wallace, Mikhala, Brianna and Danika Bailey, Samantha and Lacy McDaniel, Molly and Macey Dabb, Wyatt Boden, Skyler, Lonna, Allegra and Mia Henley, Dominic Tucker, Lynley Auten, Ariel, Dale and Josie Joy Konen and one great-great-grandson, Brantley Dibel Wallace.

The family thanks everyone for their kind words during this time.
