Owen Baker, 9, of Creston, died Thursday, July 11, 2024, snuggled with his mom and dad at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 16, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Creston. Memorial services will be livestreamed. Fr. Patrick Amedeka will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Creston. Open memorial visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., with family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. and a rosary service at 7 p.m., Monday, July 15, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests balloons, as Owen often enjoyed having balloons bounce around his room or using them as target practice with his switch adapted Nerf gun. Memorials can be directed to Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Blank Children’s Hospital Child Life Program or University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital’s Child Life Program. Owen Luke Baker was born Jan. 24, 2015, son of Luke and Kimberly (Miller) Baker in Creston. Owen was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Creston.

Owen enjoyed camping with his family, visiting zoos, snuggles and watching “Duck Dynasty” and “The Golden Girls.”

Owen is survived by his parents, Luke and Kim Baker; his grandparents, John and Retta Baker and Mike and Jan Miller; his aunt, Laura (Neil Busch) Baker; uncle, Chris Miller; home nurse, Pat Baudler; a large extended family and many great friends.
