Gerald Harden, 93, of Mount Ayr, formerly of Creston, died Thursday, July 11, 2024, at Clearview Nursing Home in Mount Ayr.

Gerald Harden, 93, of Mount Ayr, formerly of Creston, died Thursday, July 11, 2024, at Clearview Nursing Home in Mount Ayr. A Celebration of Life service will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 15, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Pastor Jodi Rushing will officiate the service. The burial will be in Greenfield Cemetery. Open visitation, with family receiving friends, will be 1-2 p.m. Monday, July 15, prior to the service at Powers Funeral Home in Creston.

Gerald Lee Harden, was born Oct. 3, 1930, son of Nile Quinton Harden and Hazel Irene (Platt) Harden in Adair County near Orient. Gerald attended Zion School and graduated from Zion High School. Gerald lived in Adair County until moving to Madison County in 1951, where he farmed with his father and carried the Shopper.

Gerald moved to Creston in 1993 with his mother where he began doing handyman work and began working for Hy-Vee. In 1994, Gerald met Janie Marie Thomson and in 2000 they were married. They lived in Creston and in 2015, as a couple, they moved to C.A.R.E. in Afton. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Creston.

Gerald is survived by his cousins, Don and Kim Hoepker.

Gerald is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Janice in 2021 and his aunts, Maxine (Kenneth) Hoepker and Edith (Dale) Bamsey.
