Marilyn Miller, 98, of Creston, died Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Creston Specialty Care.

Marilyn Miller, 98, of Creston, died Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Creston Specialty Care. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 21, at Powers Funeral Home, 601 New York Avenue, Creston. Services will be livestreamed. Pastor Jodi Rushing will officiate. Private family burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Creston. Open visitation will be from 2-7 p.m., with family to receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, June 20, at Powers Funeral Home.

Marilyn Elaine Miller was born to Hugh and Helen Bolton in Lincoln Township, Union County. He was the oldest of four siblings, Juanita (Dick) Lewis, Hugh C. (Zona) Bolton and Helen Faye (Don) Mosman. She grew up on the farm northeast of Creston and graduated from Creston High School in 1943. She obtained her teaching credential and taught school in Lewis and Creston until 1957.

Marilyn wed Alman William Miller of rural Orient on May 6, 1957, they were married for 49 years. They farmed in Adams County until 2005 and raised seven children. She was a great farm wife, nurturing mother, an excellent cook and avid gardener.

Marilyn was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Creston and singing in the choir was her passion. She was also involved with Weight Watchers and the Jolly Neighbor Club, where she was a formidable card player. She had a lifelong love of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team from radio days to television, thanks to her dad’s influence. Her hobbies included reading the newspaper and Cappers Weekly, playing card games, watching game shows and baseball games and solving crosswords and other puzzles.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Alman Miller; her parents, Hugh and Helen Bolton; a sister, Juanita (Dick) Lewis; a brother, Hugh (Zona) Bolton and her brother-in-law, Don Mosman.

She is survived by her children, Steven (Ruby) Miller of Orient, Mark Miller of Nevinville, Max (Maria) Miller of Woodbridge, Virginia, Jon (Donna) Miller of Nevinville, Lori (Chuck) Breitenbucher of Cave Creek, Arizona, Joel Miller of Nevinville and Nancy Miller of Nevinville; her sister, Helen Mosman of Creston; grandchildren: Stephanie and Sasha, Adam and Dylan and Samantha; great-grandchildren: KayLynn, EllieAnna, Bentley and Axel; many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
