Winn “Windy” Thornton, 66, of Shannon City, died Sunday, April 21, 2024, at her home in Shannon City.

Winn “Windy” Thornton, 66, of Shannon City, died Sunday, April 21, 2024, at her home in Shannon City. Celebration of Life Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at Powers Funeral Home in Afton. The burial will be in Beulah Cemetery south of Lorimor. Open visitation will be 2-7 p.m., with family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m., Friday, April 26, at Powers Funeral Home in Afton.

Winn Ann Thornton was born June 27, 1957, to Eldon Richard Daub and Wanda Mae Daub in Leon. Winn attended Creston Community Schools.

Windy worked at Bunn-O-Matic on the line in an assembly position while living in Creston. She later worked for DEKKO and Heat Tech in assembly positions as well. She moved to Shannon City in 1996.

On June 9, 2001, Winn was united in marriage to Dale Allan Thornton in Afton. They continued to live in Shannon City, where she worked as housekeeper at Southwestern Community College until her retirement in 2018. Winn was a definite homebody in life, she loved spending time with her family and particularly the grandbabies, particularly making a special meal for them. She also enjoyed country music, old western movies and reading.

Winn is survived by her husband, Dale Thornton of Shannon City; three children: Wayne Thornton of Lincoln, Nebraska, Dale Thornton of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, and Sheila (Jed Sorensen) Poppe of Lincoln; five grandchildren; a brother, Richard Daub of Denver Colorado; two step-brothers, Eddie Froit and Montel Froit, both of Afton; two step-sisters, Linda (Harvey) VanHeeswyk of Afton and Debbie Hudson of Des Moines.

Winn was proceeded in death by her parents; stepfather, I.D. Froit in 2018; daughter, Angel Daub in 2016 and stepbrother, Doug Froit.
