Donald Butler, 90, of Creston, died Sunday, April 21, 2024, at Homestead Assisted Living in Creston. Celebration of Life Services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 27, at Salem Lutheran Church in Creston. Pastor Evan McVann will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Creston. Open visitation will be 2-7 p.m., with family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m., Friday, April 26, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston,

Donald Clare Butler was born Feb. 4, 1934, to Leonard Butler and Zella (Grandy) Butler in Charles City. He graduated from Charles City High School in 1952 and received his teaching credentials, including his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in industrial art from the State College of Iowa.

On June 21, 1975, Don was united in marriage to Beverly Ann (Ruhde) Mincey in Creston, where they made their home. Don worked for the Creston School District, teaching shop class, drafting, woodworking and welding for over 30 years. After retirement, Don was actively involved helping with building houses for Habitat for Humanity in the Union County area.

Don was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church in Creston.

Survivors include his son, Mark Butler of Des Moines; one granddaughter, Nicole Ott of Creston; two great-granddaughters, Kaylee Ott of Creston and Keara Ott of Sharpsburg; seven nieces and nephews, Jill Miller, Emily Watson, Aaron Ruhde, Mark Phelps, David Phelps, Elaine Kapek and Mike Butler; his brother-in-law, Craig (Carol) Rudhe of Texas; his sister-in-law, Shirley Phelps of Bayard, many great-nieces and -nephews, other extended family and many cherished friends.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Beverly in 2021; his daughter, Crystal Butler; his father- and mother-in-law, Herman and Bertha Ruhde; his niece, JoAnn Butler and his uncle, Virgil (Lillian) Grandy.
