Gerald "Gerry" Lorenz, 93, of Le Mars, formerly of Creston, died Monday, Feb. 12,  2024, at Good Samaritan Society of Le Mars.

Gerald ‘Gerry’ Lorenz, 93, of Le Mars, formerly of Creston, passed away Monday, Feb. 12, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Society of Le Mars.

Memorial Services will be held in spring 2024. Burial with military honors will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Arrangements are with Rexwinkel Funeral Home of Le Mars.

Gerald Edward Lorenz was born Oct. 12, 1930, to Walter and Florence (Rick) Lorenz in Detroit, Michigan. He graduated from high school in Detroit and enlisted in the United States Air Force. Gerry was stationed in Alaska during the Korean Conflict. While in Alaska his daughter, Debbie, was born. He was honorably discharged after four years of service. Gerry then began a career with the United States Postal Service. Gerry went back to school and graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in 1975. Gerry retired from USPS in 1986. During his retirement Gerry lived across the Midwest, primarily in Creston, for over 20 years. In 2019 he moved to Le Mars.

Gerry enjoyed traveling, reading, studying history and biblical studies. He also created and collected model airplanes.

Gerry is survived by his daughter, Debbie Ribando and son-in-law, John Ribando of Le Mars; two grandsons, John Ribando and Mike Ribando, both of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and other extended relatives.

Gerry is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donald Lorenz; wife, Velma Lorenz and ex-wife, Arleta Lorenz.
