Mark Baker, 66, of Diagonal, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2024, at Carlisle Care Center in Carlisle.

Mark Baker, 66, of Diagonal, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2024, at Carlisle Care Center in Carlisle. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 9 at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Creston. Father Patrick Amedaka will officiate the service. The Mass will be livestreamed, found at a link under events at www.powersfh.com. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr. Open visitation will be 2 to 7 p.m., with family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 8, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston.

Mark Anthony Baker was born Aug. 16, 1957, son of Benno Beede Baker and Pauline Louise (Young) Baker in Mount Ayr. Mark attended Mount Ayr High School where he graduated with the class of 1975.

On Aug. 4, 1979, Mark was united in marriage to Janelle Lynn Davis at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Afton. They first lived and worked out of the Ellston area. At that time, Mark worked for a farmer. In 1986, they settled in rural Diagonal where he continued his farming career.

Mark enjoyed the simple things in life, like his children and all the events they had. He spent a lot of time with his grandchildren and followed their many activities. In his early years, he was busy hunting and riding motorcycles. Later, while farming and working, he loved his John Deere equipment and cattle.

Mark is survived by his wife, Janelle Baker of Diagonal; his children: Micheal (Britney) Baker of Kellerton, Jacqueline (Justin) Bacon of Manson and Russell (Lizzy) Baker of Thayer ; his sisters: Barbara Trisler of Mount Ayr and Virginia (Lynn) Berry of De Soto; sisters-in-law: Betty Baker of Creston and Jean Davis of Creston; his grandchildren: Colby, Kegan and Collin Bacon and Matthew and Morgan Baker; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Mark is preceded in death by his parents, Benno and Pauline; his in-laws, Carl and Ruby Davis; his brothers, Richard and Robert Baker and a sister in-law, Connie Baker.
