Jason Merboth, 39, of Creston, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. Memorial services will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 10, at Pearson Family Funeral Service & Cremation Center in Creston. The family requests casual attire with Hawaiian shirts, if possible. Jason’s cremated remains will be buried in the Graceland Cemetery following the service.

Jason Michael Merboth was born Jan. 6, 1984, the son of Michael Clarke and Christi Kay (Hamilton) Merboth in Creston. Jason was raised and educated in Creston and graduated from Creston High School with the class of 2002. Following graduation, Jason enrolled at Southwestern Community College and graduated with an associate degree in structural steel drafting. He attended Iowa State University for a semester.
During high school, Jason worked at Fareway and during college, he worked for Dean Leith at New Homestead Log Homes as a log peeler. In 2005, after attending ISU, Jason moved to Greeley, Colorado, where he became a certified motorcycle mechanic for Harley-Davidson. He worked there for five years, returning to Creston in 2010, when he began his employment as an engineer with Wellman Dynamics. Jason also worked for R.E. Lewis Refrigeration of Creston and for Chicago Magnesium in Chicago, Illinois. Jason never married and lived his life to the fullest each and every day.
Jason is survived by his mother, Christi Byerly of Creston; his father, Michael (Janie) Merboth of Orient; brother, Josh Merboth (fiance, Jessica Lundt) of Decorah; sister, Melissa Kauzlarich of Indianola; niece and nephews: Kristina, Devon and Seth; sister, Mindy Watrous of Des Moines, and two more nephews, Tristan and Logan. He is also survived by his paternal grandparents, Warren and Marlene Merboth of Creston; two aunts: Lori (John) Hays of Creston and Cathy Woods of Osage Beach, Missouri; two uncles: Steve Hamilton of McGregor and Buckie Stanley; cousins: Cain and Cole Lacina, Miranda and Samantha Hays, Dustin and Kassie Hamilton and second cousins: Alissa and Serenity Hays.
Jason was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Jim and Rose Hamilton; great-grandparents and aunt, Joni Stanley.
