Joyce E. Bartlett

Joyce Elaine Bartlett, 72, of Creston, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2023, after fighting a courageous battle with kidney failure and lung cancer for nearly three years. A family gathering will be announced at a later date.

Joyce was born July 18, 1951, to Kenneth and Doris Bartlett (Dwyer) in southwest Iowa. She grew up on a farm about 10 miles west of Orient. She attended Orient-Macksburg High School, where she graduated from in 1969, having participated in several activities including athletics management and choir. After high school, Joyce worked in several professions throughout southwest Iowa, including the towns of Greenfield, Creston, Orient and Atlantic. She most recently worked at Vanmark for over two decades.

Joyce was an incredibly supportive mother, daughter, sister and grandmother. The most important element of her life was her family and their well-being. She yearned for more connection, more family gatherings and at the same time, came to as many events and gatherings as she could manage. Regardless of the situation, she was always there with a warm phone call, an unprompted text and a message of love and support for all of her loved ones. Even from afar, she was able to send and spread her love to her children and grandchildren. She maintained a character of strength and positivity, especially in her last days, as she refused to give up hope.

Joyce was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth, of Creston.

She is survived by her mother, Doris (Dwyer) of Creston; sister, Barb (Rod) Green of Zion; sons, Troy (Karen) of Robins and Jake (Lindsay) of Lincoln, Nebraska, and six grandchildren: Tanner, Gavin, Rylie, Carter, Aurora and Ainsley.
