Dr. Kirpal Singh, 81, of Port Orange, Florida, died Nov. 16, 2023.

Dr. Kirpal Singh, 81, of Port Orange, Florida, died suddenly and entered God’s Kingdom on Nov. 16, 2023, at Halifax Medical Center of endocarditis and sepsis. Dr. Singh grew up in Moga, India, in the state of Punjab. He was the most loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by a global family including his wife of more than 30 years, Phyllis Singh; children: Parminder (Herbert Head) Jassal of Austin, Texas, Tejinder (Gurpreet) Jassal of Torrance, California, and Navdeep Jassal of Oakland, California; stepchildren: John Brian (Dana) Priest of Dubuque and Susy (Michael) Wylie of Daytona Beach, Florida

Kirpal attended medical college in Amritsar in Punjab, India, and completed his psychiatric residency in London, England. He moved to the United States; he loved America. He practiced medicine in New York, Missouri and Iowa. Before moving to Creston, he practiced at the state hospital in Clarinda and the Marshalltown Community Mental Health Center. Dr. Singh had a private practice on Pine Street in Creston. He was very fond of serving the small community of Creston and working in partnership with local family practice physicians, nurses and clergy.

Kirpal and Phyllis moved to Florida in 2002. Kirpal continued working as a Locum Tenens psychiatrist until 2019. He truly cared about all his patients and the importance of serving the underprivileged. He was an active member of the Daytona Beach F.A.I.T.H Group (Fighting Against Injustice Towards Harmony) an interfaith of 30 plus congregation-based community churches. He was a proud Sikh and attended the Oviedo, Florida, Gurudwara and First Presbyterian Church of Port Orange, Florida, with his wife Phyllis.

He was known for wearing tropical shirts to match his turbans and a kind smile. Kirpal and Phyllis loved cruising and traveling to Europe and China where he was pulled up the Great Wall of China by the backpack of his stepson, Brian Priest.
