Patricia Powers, 83, of Creston, passed away Nov. 27, 2023.

Patricia Powers, 83, of Creston, passed away Nov. 27, 2023. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 5 at Pearson Family Funeral Service & Cremation Center in Creston. Pastor John Van Nostrand will officiate. Burial will be in Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Spaulding. Visitation with the family receiving friends will be from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, at the funeral home.

Patricia June Powers, was born April 25, 1940, the daughter of Riley John and Ruby June (Stephens) Brown, in their Union County family home. Patricia lived in California and Texas as a child. She attended Spaulding Township Country School and Orient High School, graduating in 1958. She played six-on-six basketball, was a drum majorette in the senior marching band and taught baton twirling. Pat was honored in October 1957 as homecoming queen.

On July 27, 1958, Patricia married Leo John Powers at the Orient United Methodist Church. They settled on the Powers Farm in Spaulding Township where she worked as a homemaker, helped with field work and raised their three children: Sherri, Kendall and Dana. She was a member of the Orient United Methodist Church, served as Sunday School supervisor, a Girl Scout leader, Spaulding Ladies Aide as president and a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

She worked as a cake decorator in the Hy-Vee Bakery in Creston and taught Beginner Cake Decorating classes at the college. Patricia was known for making beautiful wedding cakes for friends and family in the area.

In her later years, she loved antiquing, collecting glass baskets and touring open houses. Pat enjoyed cruising with friends, attending Doll Club gatherings, watching Hallmark Christmas movies and spending time at her cabin on Sun Valley Lake. She was an avid viewer of Iowa sports. She kept up with events of friends and family in the community through the local newspaper, often clipping out these stories and jokes to share in written letters to loved ones.

Patricia is survived by her daughters, Sherri (Tracy) Williamson of Delavan, Wisconsin, and Dana (Dan) Steinbach of Creston; son, Kendall (Ann Marie) Powers of Creston; grandchildren: Jenna (Bradley) Williamson, Hanna Williamson, Zachary Powers, Jacob (Hallie Laning) Powers, Tessa Powers, Ella Powers, Thomas Steinbach and Seth Steinbach; brother, Raymond (Jane) Brown of Creston and several nieces and nephews.

Patricia was preceded in death by her loving husband, Leo Powers in 1985; her parents, Riley and Ruby Brown; stepfather, Howard Browne; in-laws, Bert and Gladys Powers; her infant sister, Melody Jean; brother, Larry J. Brown and her infant granddaughter, Zoe Powers.
