Carol Gist, 70, of Creston, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2023, at Crest Haven Care Centre in Creston. A Celebration of Life Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 10, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Pastor Mary O’Riley will officiate. Services will be livestreamed. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery in Creston. Open visitation with family receiving friends will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Friday, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston.

Carol Ann Gist was born Aug. 17, 1953, to Richard Daniel and Hilda M. (Schaller) Metzger in West Bend. Carol was educated at West Bend High School prior to moving to Orient. She graduated from Orient High School in 1971, and began working for Universal Ford as an assembler.

On June 9, 1973, Carol was united in marriage to Jerry Dean Gist in Greenfield. They spent 20 years in the Britt and Algona areas. She worked for Brit-Tech in Britt. Carol then worked for Winnebago in Forest City. After their children were in school, she went back to work at Good Samaritan Home in Algona. Later, she stayed home with Heidi. She then worked at Hardees in Algona. In 1993, they moved to Creston where she did overnight childcare and most recently worked with Midwest Opportunities, now Imagine the Possibilities, for 16 years.

Carol is survived by her two daughters: Gina Gist of Minnesota and Sheri Ann Gist of Creston; two sons: Andy Dean Gist of Shannon City and Richard (Jen) Gist of Creston; sister, Janice Osborne of Creston; a sister-in-law, Jody Gist of Algona.; seven brothers: Ron (Liz) Metzger of West Bend, Daniel (Sandy) Metzger of Orient, Dean (Mary) Metzger of Huxley, Sam Metzger of Greenfield, Gary (Cindy) Metzger of Orient, David Metzger of Greenfield and Marlin (Karen) Metzger of Tennesseee; 12 grandchildren: Cory Loye, Kendrick Davis, Issac Davis, Rhodey Fetcher, Faith Fetcher, Tyler Gist, Logan Gist, Christian Gist, Gabriel Frakes, Caitlyn Gist, Evan Gist and Aleah Gist and great-grandchildren: Alianna, Carsyn, Kaysen and Madelyn Ann, due in February.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerry in 2012; daughter, Heidi Ann at one year of age and brother-in-law, Tom Osborne.
