Norma Thompson, 92, of Thayer, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2023, at her home in Thayer.

Norma Thompson, 92, of Thayer, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2023, at her home in Thayer. Celebration of Life Services will be 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23, at Powers Funeral Home in Afton. Pastor Sheila Sutton will officiate. Services will be live streamed. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Afton. Open visitation will be 2-6 p.m., with family receiving friends 4-6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22 at Powers Funeral Home in Afton.

Norma Carol Thompson was born Aug. 10, 1931, the daughter of Harry Joseph Lamb and Lillian Bernice (Swaim) Lamb at her home in Clarke County. She was educated in the Afton School system and graduated from Afton High School in 1949.

Norma was united in marriage to Glenn Harvey Thompson June 5, 1949, in the Evangelical Church in Afton. They settled near Afton, farming in the Afton area. In 1959, they moved to Thayer and owned and operated the Hilltop Service Station. They also operated Thompson Trucking Service and Norma helped her husband haul lime.

Norma was a 4-H leader for many years. She also was a member of the Thayer and Pleasant Valley churches where she taught Bible school for many years. Norma enjoyed being an active mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She also enjoyed spending winters with her siblings in Arizona.

Survivors include four daughters: Glenda Davidson of Creston, Rhonda (Dave) Mixdorf of Thayer, Brenda Thaden of Greenfield and Donna (Mitch) Ramsey of Osceola; a son, Glenn (Rosie) Thompson Jr. of Thayer; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; two sisters: Faye Leeps and Shirley Allison, both of North English and two sisters-in-law: Fern Lamb and Mary Lamb, both of Cottonwood, Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Glenn Thompson in 2004; twin infant sons; brothers: Dale and Donald Lamb; sister, Ruth Weeter; sister-in-law, Bessie Miller and brothers-in-law, Kenneth Thompson, Oliver Thompson and Melvin Allison.
