Karen E. Jones

Karen Jones, 84, of Afton, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2023, at the Regency Park Care Center in Carroll. A Celebration of Life Service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17 at Powers Funeral Home, 601 New York Avenue in Creston. Pastor Sheila Sutton will officiate. Burial will follow at 12:30 p.m. in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery at Van Meter.

Karen Evon Negethon, was born June 17, 1939, the daughter of Milton and Cornelia (Waters) Negethon in Council Bluffs. She graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs.

After high school, Karen went to work for the United States Army Corps of Engineers. In January 1959, Karen married John Poore. Karen continued to work for the Army Corps of Engineers as a stenographer, among other duties. Karen and John later divorced.

In March 1973, after meeting the love of her life, Karen married William G. Jones at the Community Methodist Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They settled and worked together farming in the Afton area, all of their married life. Bill died in August of 2017.

Survivors include two brothers-in-law, a sister-in-law, nieces, nephews and a cousin.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill Jones in 2017; her brother, Terry Negethon; her brother-in-law, Robert Jones and her two sisters-in-law, Shirley Moore and Judy Jones.
