Darrell Brown, 79, of Creston, died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2023, at his home. A Celebration of Life service will be 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25, at Powers Funeral Home, 601 New York Avenue in Creston. Pastor Tim Maxa will officiate. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery near the Jerusalem Church, northeast of Creston. Visitation, with family receiving friends, will be from 1 to 3 p.m. service time Friday.

Darrell D. Brown was born June 12, 1944, to Ruby Ellen (Fine) and Floyd D. Brown in Creston. He was educated in country schools and graduated from Creston High School.

In 1960, Darrell married Karen R. England. They settled on a farm northeast of Creston where Darrell farmed, milking cows, raising hogs, cattle and crops. Darrell and Karen divorced in 1988.

Darrell worked with Iowa Select for five years, hiring out with other farmers in his afternoon and evenings. He went on to drive for G & H Trucking of Greenfield for 20 years, retiring in 2022.

Darrell was a former member of the Elks Lodge of Creston. He enjoyed pickup pulling competition and belonged to two pickup pulling associations. He also enjoyed deer hunting, coyote hunting, trapping, snowmobiling in Wyoming and Colorado and many related outdoor activities with his family and friends.

Darrell is survived by his son David (Crystal Taylor) Brown of Creston; three grandkids: Brian (Tia) Mogle of Des Moines, Brandon (Alexias) Taylor of St. Joesph, Missouri, and Jamie (Thomas) Renth of Nashville, Illinois; nine great-grandchildren; many extended family and friends.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Delmer Brown and his sister-in-law, Phyllis Brown.
