George L. Foster

Creston

George Foster, 90, of Creston, entered into eternal rest Monday, June 19, 2023, at Creston Specialty Care. Graveside services will be 12:30 p.m. Monday, July 3 at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel. Rev. Tony Thurston will officiate. Military Honors provided by the U.S. Army and Creston VFW Post #1797. Pearson Family Funeral Service & Cremation Center is in charge of the professional arrangements.

George LeRoy Foster was born Dec. 10, 1932, the son of Roy Newton and Georgia (Kuhns) Foster in Creston. George was raised and educated in the Cromwell area in Union County. George graduated from Cromwell High School with the class of 1951. On Jan. 20, 1953, George was inducted into the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict. Following basic training, George was deployed to Korea and stayed overseas until his honorable discharge Jan. 5, 1955.

Upon his return to the United States, George came home to the Cromwell area and immediately began working for the Ford Garage in Creston as a mechanic. He worked there for 10 years, from 1955-1965.

On Nov. 1, 1959, George and JoAnn Bryant were married in Cromwell. The couple raised three children: Terry, Troy and Tracy. George began a long career in 1965, working for Green Valley Chemical Company. He was a control board operator for many years, retiring in 1994, at age 62, as a supervisor.

George was an active, long-time member of the First Christian Church of Creston. He served the church as a Sunday morning greeter and sang in the church choir. George enjoyed hunting and fishing when he was younger and was a member of the North American Hunting Club and the NRA.

George was preceded in death by a grandson, Raymond Pryce Creighton; a brother-in-law, Horace Daggett and by his parents and grandparents.

George is survived by his wife, JoAnn Foster of Creston; his children: Terry (Joy) Foster of Casey, Troy (Virginia) Foster of Creston and Tracy (Daniel) Creighton of Grimes; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers, Kenny (Carol) Foster of Creston and Duane (Bobbi) Foster of St. Joseph, Missouri; a sister, Ruth Daggett of Creston and by several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
