Richard “Rick” Landers Sr., 76, of Lorimor, died Friday, April 28, 2023, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. A Memorial Celebration of Life will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday, May 20, at Powers Funeral Home, 601 New York Avenue in Creston. Pastor Mary O’Riley will officiate. Private family burial will be in Union Chapel Cemetery in Madison County. A memorial visitation with family receiving will be from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Powers Funeral Home in Creston.

Richard Wayne Landers Sr. was born Sept. 27, 1946, the son of Jack Marvin Landers and Edith Mardena (Herman) Landers-Glazebrook in Dexter. He attended Lorimor High School.
On May 9, 1965, Rick was united in marriage to Ramona Jean Stewart in Creston. They first settled in Des Moines where he worked for Iowa Crib and Silo, later moving to Booneville, where worked for Pittsburgh-Des Moines Steel as a welder. Rick and his family moved to the Thayer area where he worked for his uncle in the logging business. Following a short move to another farm in the Thayer area he went to work for Wellman as a molder.
Rick began working for Peters at the sand quarry, after moving to Lorimor in 1973 he worked for John Deere in Creston and in a variety of road construction positions with Elders and Thornberg Construction. He also was involved in Fred Ryder, Ted McDowell and Rich Wenzig Construction; David Downey and Murray Shade in farm construction, building ponds and terraces. Rick sold cars for many years.
Rick was a former member of the Lorimor Lions Club, the Lorimor Volunteer Fire Department and the Union Local Operators #234. Rick enjoyed racing in many different areas beginning with drag racing at Eddyville and Des Moines, later truck pulling on a national level and stock car racing at Corning, Stuart and Audubon.
Rick is survived by his wife Ramona Landers of Lorimor; five children: Rick (Tina Paxton) Landers, Jr. of New Virginia, Rhonda (Matt) McCall of Waukee, Rebecca (Dean) Scarlett of Perry, Robin (Troy) Miller of Murray and Rosa Landers of Lorimor; two sisters, Linda Carter of Guthrie Center and Sheila (Dalen) Kimball of Murray; three brothers: Michael (Linda) Landers of Afton, James (Sheila) Landers of Blackwell, Oklahoma, and John (Kim) Glazebrook of Osceola; 19 grandchildren: David (Ambre) Landers, Chris Landers, Stephanie (Gavin) Fox, Amanda McCall (John Althaus), Renee McCall, Paula McCall, Billy (Taylor) McCall, Shauna (Chis) Wethington, Carrie (Cody) Sheehy, Tyler Fenton, Amber (Albert) Adams, Nichole (Brent) Galladay, Jesse Scarlett, Cody (Tera) Osborne, Ashley Scarlett, Brent Miller, Tony Miller, Dustin Miller and Caleb (Rachel) Miller and 44 great-grandchildren.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents; his father- and mother-in-law; a daughter Rainie Landers; two brothers-in-law Raymond Stewart and Jim Purscell; nephew Mick Landers and niece Peggy Woodsmall.
