Larry Cleve Clayton was born March 5, 1947, to Cleve Eugene Clayton and Wilma Evelyn (Ramsbottom) Clayton in Creston. He graduated from Lorimor High School in 1965. He went on to serve his country as a part of the United States Army as a Jeep mechanic in Okinawa, Japan, from 1966-1972. After returning from the military, he attended Southwestern Community College.

He settled in Creston and began working for Union County as a part of the road maintenance department. Later in the 1980s he moved to the family farm near Thayer. On Dec. 24, 1992, Larry was united in marriage to Linda Louise Armstrong by the Christmas tree at Linda’s parents in Lenox. He later worked for Walmart doing maintenance work during a variety of different shifts, followed by Southern Hills Care Center in Osceola and Murray Schools as a janitor until he retired in the early 2000s. Larry also ran for Union County Supervisor in the late 90s and early 2000s.

Larry could always be found outside fishing the Grand River and various fishing spots, taking care of his land and precious flowers and visiting his friends and family. He was known for his love of animals, even owning owls, cats, dogs and a skunk. We will miss your stories of your younger days and jokes more than ever.
