Twila Carter, 85, of Creston, passed away Friday, March 31, 2023, at the Crest Haven Nursing Home in Creston. Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 5 at the McFall Cemetery in McFall, Missouri. Rev. Ron Ratliff will officiate. Family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. at the Roberson Funeral Home, Pattonsburg, Missouri. Pearson Family Funeral Service & Cremation Center of Creston and Roberson Funeral Home of Pattonsburg are in charge of arrangements.

Twila Joy (Feurt) Carter was born Jan. 3, 1938, daughter of Cleo G. and Myrtle R. (Brannon) Feurt in Labette County, Chetopa, Kansas. At the age of 9 months, she and her family moved to a farm seven miles southwest of Pattonsburg.
Twila attended a one-room school, Round Top, for eight years. She graduated from Pattonsburg High School in 1956 as valedictorian. She attended Gard Business School in St. Joseph, Missouri, going to work at Hillard Chemical Co. in 1956.
On Aug. 31, 1957, she was united in marriage to Jacob “Jake” Carter. To this union four boys were born: Rick, Randall, Roger and Rob.
Twila and Jake moved their family to Creston the first time in 1973 when they bought the Chicken Inn with Vance and Lila Monday. They returned to Gower, Missouri, in 1974. They returned to Creston in 1979 when Jake took a job with Schildberg Construction and Twila transferred to American Family Insurance in West Des Moines in 1984. They moved to McFall, Missouri, in 1993. Jake passed away March 18, 1999. Twila retired from American Family Insurance on May 7, 1999, after 24 years. She returned to Iowa to be near her family.
Twila did crafting for 32 years and she and Jake traveled many miles showing at craft shows all over the Midwest. She also loved playing canasta, pitch and bingo.
Preceding Twila in death was her husband, Jake; sons: Randall and Roger; her parents; father and mother-in-law Elbert and Daisy Carter; nine brothers-in-law; six sisters-in-law and special dog, Chip.
Left to cherish Twila’s memory is her sons: Rick (Michelle Mostek) Carter, Rob (Angel Orr) Carter; daughters-in-law: Kathleen Marckmann and Kathy McIntosh-Carter; grandchildren: Jared (Jess), Tyler (Sarah), Chelsea (Danny), Brooke, Whitney (Brandon), CJ (Matthew) and Ashton; nine great-grandchildren; sister; Janis (Cliff) Hibbs; brother Cleo (Paula) Feurt; sisters-in-law: Hazel and Wanda; brother-in-law, Elbert (Reva) Carter; special niece and nephew: Greg and Marjorie Steel, along with numerous nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.
