Duane Piearson, 71, of Green Castle, Missouri, formerly of Afton, died Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2023, at the Lamoni Specialty Care Center. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, at the Powers Funeral Home, 612 North Dodge in Afton. Burial will be in Hopeville Cemetery near Hopeville. Full Military honors will be provided by Theodore J. Martens V.F.W. Post 1797. Pastor Jim Morris will officiate.

Duane Eugene Piearson was born March 22, 1951, the son of Donald Eugene and Dorothy Marlyn (Snyder) Piearson in Osceola. He attended Murray High School. He began helping his father on the family farm. He moved with his family to Osceola. Duane served his country as a part of the United States Navy.

Upon his return from the military, he began working at Wellman Dynamics. Duane was united in marriage to Linda Welder. They settled near Lorimor. He worked in a variety of different construction roles. They were later divorced.

On Nov. 14, 1988, Duane was united in marriage to Theresa Lynn Bradford in Mount Ayr. They settled in Shannon City, later moving to Thayer and Afton. He returned to Wellman Dynamics where he worked for a total of 36 years as a molder and other duties until his retirement in 2013. They were later divorced but remained dear friends.

He was collector of antiques and guns. In Duane’s spare time he was an active hunter and fisherman. He especially like spending time shooting his black powder guns and cutting wood for his wood stove.

Survivors include his spouse, Theresa Piearson Bradford; two daughters, Jenifer (Leon) Ehlich of Leon and Samantha Piearson of Thayer; two sons, Michael (Robin) Piearson of Creston and Mark Piearson of Leon; 19 grandchildren; a brother, Charles (Yvonne) Piearson of Creston, and a sister, Laurie Kady of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents and a half-sister, Jane (Fischer).
