Charles William Miller was born Feb. 28, 1937, the son of Frank Charles and Mae (Bridget) Miller in Iowa City. Charles’ mother died when he was 5 years old, so his aunt Gertrude and other aunts and uncles help raise him. He was educated in Creston schools, including St. Malachy.

Early on, Charles worked in the bluegrass fields of Creston. Charles served the United States Army beginning in 1956, serving in Alaska. After his discharge, he moved to Des Moines, working at a motel as a front desk clerk. Moving on to Huxley, he began work with the United States Department of Agriculture in Ames. Later, in retirement, he worked as a security officer with event centers and The Orleans Casino in Las Vegas.

Charles was very supportive of the Christ the King Catholic Church. He enjoyed motorcycles, Harley Davidson functions and was supportive of Boys Town, St. Jude Children’s Hospital and the National Rifleman Association. Charlie knew no stranger; he was friendly to everyone.

Survivors include his brother, Jim Miller of Minnesota; nephew, Lon (Theresa) Miller of Michigan; niece Angela Miller-Flaherty of Murray and other extended family.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Angela, in infancy.
