Virginia Eblen, 95, of Creston, died Sunday, Dec. 25, 2022, at Crest Haven Care Centre in Creston. No public services will be scheduled. Virginia will be buried with her husband Delmar in a cemetery near Messena.

Virginia Adeline Westphal was born Dec. 22, 1927, to Glen Harold and Geneva Evangeline (Evans) Westphal near Fontanelle. She started school in Adair County, but the family moved to Cass County in 1934.
Virginia finished the eighth grade at Massena #7 rural school, and graduated from Bridgewater High School in 1945. She attended a branch of Iowa State Teacher’s College Summer School in Red Oak. Virginia earned her three-year teaching certificate and returned to teach at Massena #7 for two years.
On Aug. 10, 1947, Virginia married Delmar LaVern Eblen at Bridgewater Methodist Church. She taught that school term at the rural school in Summerset Township in Adair County. They resided on the Doris Eblen farm. One son was born to this union on April 29, 1949, Roger Lee Eblen.
Virginia was a homemaker, a farmwife, cook at the Richland School and she worked with Delmar in their custom harvesting business. Virginia operated combines, drove trucks and prepared meals for the harvesting crew as they traveled from Texas to North Dakota. Delmar and Virginia retired from custom harvesting in 1986 and started raising pure bred Simental cattle until 2000 when they retired and moved to Creston.
Survivors include her grandson, Eric Eblen of Plattsmouth, Nebraska; great-granddaughter Kiley Eblen of Plattsmouth; great-grandson Dean Eblen; nephew, Mike (Karen) Eblen of Creston; niece Mauxie (Pat) King of Creston; sister-in-law, Juanita Eblen; numerous nieces; nephews; cousins and other family.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Delmar; her son Roger (Beverly) Eblen; a brother, Calvin Westphal; brothers-in-law, Charles Eblen and Merritt Eblen; a sister-in-law, Margaret Blazek; numerous nieces; nephews; cousins and extended family.
