Dana Lee Larimore, was born Oct. 13, 1936, son of Timothy J. and Eva Malinda (Bair) Larimore on their farm south of Oakland, Iowa. The family later moved to Harlan where Dana finished his high school days.
Dana’s first marriage brought three children to this union: David, Dawn and Douglas. They later divorced.
In the early days, Dana started farming and raising and showing quarter horses. He auctioneered with his father for many years and judged horse shows. Later, Dana began working for Combined Insurance Company and was a supervisor in management with a large territory in several states. Dana worked for Combined for 30 plus years.
In 1978, Dana married Marilyn Brown at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Creston. He then became a father to three more children: Kim, Steve and Kevin. Dana and Marilyn started their life in Creston and later moved to Sun Valley Lake in Ellston, where he enjoyed volunteering at the golf course and on many other committees. After 15 years, they moved back to Creston and built a house where they still reside. Dana and Marilyn spent winter months in Arizona for 16 years.
After retirement, he found he needed something to keep him busy. So, he started to work for the Creston Park and Rec Department, mowing and driving a semi for Downing Farms, which he thoroughly enjoyed. He loved to spend time with Marilyn and all his friends golfing. He very much loved seeing and spending time with his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. He also loved watching sports especially the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Kansas City Chiefs. He hated to miss a game.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife and the love of his life, Marilyn; children: Dave (Tami) Larimore, Doug (Mindy) Larimore, Dawn Black, Kim (Darrel) Robertson, Steve (JoAnn) Brown and Kevin (Andrea) Brown; grandchildren: Erin (Eric), Robin (Clint), Kadi (Trevor), Valerie (fiance Kelsey), Jake, Taylor, Joe, Jesse, Brooke, Jamie (girlfriend Rachel), Casey (Cassie), Matthew, Patrick (Jordyn), Steffenie (Brian), Daniel, Ian (Amanda), Maryssa and Xander; great-grandchildren: Bronson, Amelia, Tate, Tucker, Tripp, Throne, Ethan, Eyon, Eva, Sophie, Grayson, Krew, Laramie and Jaelyn and we must not leave out his four legged love, his kitty Miss Muffin. He loved her dearly.
Dana was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Irvin; sister Evelyn (Norm) Taylor and Dana’s mother and father-in-law, Merrill and Cleo Miller.
