Edwin Clyde Hill was born March 23, 1930, the son of Harold and Neva (Herbst) Hill in Lenox. He grew up attending school in Lenox, graduating with the class of 1947. After graduation, he entered the United States Air Force, serving four years and being honorably discharged as a Master Sergeant.

Ed was united in marriage to Elba San Miguel on Nov. 15, 1953, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The couple moved to Maryville, Missouri, where Ed attended Northwest Missouri State University, graduating with his bachelor’s degree. He became a teacher and coach in Quimby at Willow Community Schools. The couple were blessed with the birth of three children, Steve, Jon and Lisa.

In 1962, the family moved to Puerto Rico where Ed continued teaching and coaching. In 1967, the family moved to Iowa where Ed attended NYU where he got his master’s degree in 1967. Ed continued teaching and coaching while moving up the ladder as principal and assistant superintendent in Iowa and Florida. He retired in 1989, and the couple moved to Lenox, where he continued to substitute teach for many years. From 1977 to 1989, he served with the Air National Guard.

They enjoyed traveling, Ed loved collecting ‘only Mopar’ vehicles. They enjoyed visiting in Florida and going on cruises. He was an avid Cardinals fan and was always rooting for the NW Bearcats. You know they say, ‘Once a Bearcat. Always a Bearcat.’ He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Lenox Rotary Club, Lenox American Legion and the VFW.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife Elba Hill of Lenox; his three children, Steve (Debby) Hill of Ellenton, Florida; Jon (Jose Arcilla) Hill of Sacramento, California, and Lisa (Bobby) Andrews of Siesta Key, Florida; four grandchildren: Alessandra, Andrea, Nikolas and Joseph Polenc; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Marleen ‘Lee’ Hill of Lenox; one brother, Wendall Hill of Lenox; along with many other relatives and a community of friends.

Preceding Ed in death are his parents, Harold and Neva Hill and one brother, Gary Hill.

Ed was a proud American who enjoyed teaching and giving back to his community. May he be at peace in God’s loving care.
