Anna Elizabeth Robinson, 96, of Creston, died Oct. 20, 2022, at Creston Specialty Care. A public committal service for Elizabeth will be held at Hawkeye Cemetery, Hawkeye, Iowa, at a later date. At her request, there will be no visitation. Powers Funeral Home of Creston is in charge of the arrangements.
Given Elizabeth’s love of reading, memorials may be made in Elizabeth’s name to Gibson Memorial Library or First United Methodist Church of Creston for the purchase of books and other educational materials. Online condolences may be left at www.powersfh.com.
Anna Elizabeth Robinson was born Dec. 15, 1925, the daughter of William Leroy and Helen (Laughlin) Chamberlain in Postville, Iowa, in the middle of a blizzard. When the snow abated, Elizabeth’s father drove a team of horses and a sleigh from Hawkeye to Postville to take the new mother and their little baby home. A 50-mile round trip in freezing conditions. On Aug. 22, 1948, Elizabeth married Robert Walter Robinson at Hawkeye Methodist Church in Hawkeye. After living in Luana, Sutherland and Peterson, Elizabeth and Robert and boys moved to Creston in 1959 where she was a homemaker and an avid gardener. She also worked for Seckington’s Hardware and was a bookkeeper for A.V. Boyd and Sons for many years.
Elizabeth and Robert retired to Bella Vista, Arkansas, in 1986 where they resided until September 2013, when poor health necessitated their move back to Creston. Robert passed away in February 2014.
Elizabeth was active in the community during her years in Creston. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed singing in the choir; Eastern Star, PEO, Garden Club, card clubs and various other organizations. In Bella Vista, she belonged to Bella Vista Community Church, Crime Watch and Bella Vista Garden Club. During this time Elizabeth held a state office in the Arkansas PEO. She was a voracious reader and passed her love of reading on to her family.
Elizabeth is survived by her son John (Jeannine) Robinson of North Waterboro, Maine, and their children; daughter Jessica Robinson of Boston, Massachusetts; son Robbie (Jasmin) Robinson and their two boys, Mattimeo and Link of Standish, Maine, and son William (Shelly) Robinson of Creston, and their daughters, Amanda Robinson of Norwalk and Emily (Matt) Cushman of Waukee, as well as friends in Creston and Bella Vista.
