Linda Spare, 72, of Afton, died Thursday, Oct. 6, 2022, at her home in Afton. Celebration of Life Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11 at Powers Funeral Home in Afton. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Creston at a later date. Open visitation will be 2-7 p.m. with family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m, Monday, Oct. 10 at Powers Funeral Home in Afton.

Linda Susan Spare was born July 18, 1950, to Leonard Cecil and Virginia Eleanor (Oshel) Bubb in Adair County, Iowa. She grew up in Creston and attended Creston High School. She went on to receive her GED from Drake. Linda was united in marriage to Floyd Van Zandt on Nov. 8, 1969, in Des Moines. Together they had two daughters, Mandi, and Megon. They later divorced. On June 9, 1999, she was united in marriage to Robert Joseph “Bob” Spare in Des Moines. Linda lived in Des Moines and worked at the YMCA, where she maintained the pool, did housekeeping and janitorial work. She also worked at Sam’s Club in the kitchen. Later they moved to Afton where she went to work for Boyt Harness in Osceola, Clarke County Hospital for 10 years and she also cooked at CARE in Afton.
She is survived by her husband Robert “Bob” Spare of Afton; two daughters, Mandi (Tony) Smith of Des Moines and Megon (Delfino) Hernandez of Des Moines; stepson Michael Spare of Afton, stepdaughter, Jenna (Scott) McKinney of Afton; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three step grandchildren, three step great-grandchildren; one brother, Richard “Dick” (LaRue) Bubb of Rossiter, Pennsylvania; sister in-law, Maria Bubb of Houston, Texas; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Virginia; stepfather Earl Pickron; four brothers: Robert Dale Bubb, Leonard “Paul” (Mary) Bubb, Danny Bubband Jerry Bubb; sister, Sharon Kessler; brother in-law, Damian “Yogi” Spare and other family members.
