Ellie Carney, 86, of Creston, died Monday, Sept. 19, 2022, at Greater Regional Health in Creston. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at Powers Funeral Home, 601 New York Avenue in Creston. Pastor Doug Brunell will officiate.

Eleanore Louise Carney was born April 29, 1936, the daughter of Howard and Grace Cooper in Detroit, Michigan. Ellie was educated in Detroit schools, and continued studying at Columbia College in Columbia, Missouri.

On April 9, 1955, Ellie was united in marriage to Richard Carney in Chattanooga, Tennessee. After marrying, Ellie and Dick enjoyed traveling the world while he was enlisted in the U.S. Army for 20 years. In 1976, Ellie and Dick retired to Creston where they owned and operated Aladdin Travel for over 20 years.

Ellie was a part of bowling and bridge leagues. She loved the St. Louis Cardinals, Iowa Hawkeyes and Detroit Lions. Ellie had a special place for Christmas in her heart, playing Santa for many years. Ellie always made sure her extended family and friends had a home to go to and food to eat. She hosted many pool parties, always inviting her friends and family. Ellie loved her family and friends very much. She loved wearing jewelry, getting her hair fixed up and anything with sparkle. The family is encouraging you to wear some colorful clothing when you attend her service Saturday.

Ellie is survived by her husband, Richard Carney of Creston; two daughters Terry Wallace and Stacy Van Hal, both of Creston, three grandchildren: Erin Wallace, Richard (Madison) Wallace and Mason (significant other Jami Graham) Wagaman, all of Creston and three great-grandchildren: Nate Bentley, Ryder Wallace and Octavia Wagaman.

Ellie is preceded in death by her parents, daughter Kathy Jean Carney and her sister June Blair.
