Janet Louise (Cottrell) Pool

Janet Louise (Cottrell) Pool, 79, of Des Moines, went home to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Aug. 9, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20 at Peace Lutheran Church, 5615 SW 14th St. in Des Moines, with visitation two hours prior.

Janet was born on Aug. 3, 1943, to Wilma (Parker) and Glen Cottrell in Osceola, Iowa. Her early years were spent on a farm south of Murray where she attended school in a one-room schoolhouse. Her family moved to a farm northeast of Creston in 1950 where she lived until moving to Des Moines following graduation from Creston High School in 1961. She married Larry Pool on Sept. 11, 1965, and the couple made their home in Des Moines. Janet was primarily a homemaker devoted to caring for her family. She was a gifted seamstress and enjoyed time spent gardening.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Larry Pool; her children: David Pool, Sandra (Derrick) Sharpe and Linda (Douglas Fils) Pool; grandchildren: Zachary, Jacob and Rebecca Sharpe and Matthew Fils; her siblings, Norman (Nancy) Cottrell and Berniece Muhr; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law, Francis Muhr.
