Creston

Gary Davis, 75, of Creston, died Wednesday, June 1, 2022, on his farm west of Creston. A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 6, at Powers Funeral Home, 601 New York Avenue in Creston. The services will be livestreamed at a link under events at powersfh.com. Pastor Mary O’Riley will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Creston. Open visitation will be from 1 - 5 p.m. with family receiving friends from 3 - 5 p.m. Sunday, June 5.

Gary Lee Davis was born Aug. 28, 1946, son of Glen Earl and Helen Louise (Abbott) Davis, in Creston, Iowa. He graduated from Creston High School in 1964 and continued his studies at Creston Community College and then graduated from Northwest Missouri State College. Gary served his country as a part of the United States Army Reserve from April 1967 to July 1973.

On June 29, 1968, Gary was united in marriage to Marsha K. Johnson in Creston. They settled in Creston where he has been a life-long resident. He began working for Avco Finance in Creston, then with Farm Bureau Insurance as a field underwriter. Gary started working with First Federal Savings and Loan of Creston, where he worked for 35 years, retiring in 2006.

Gary was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Creston, Union County Development Company, Creston Kiwanis Club, Creston Elks Lodge and Creston Chamber of Commerce. Gary enjoyed hunting, tournament fishing, riding motorcycles, cattle ranching and most importantly – spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Marsha Davis; twins, Jason (Ann) Davis of Creston and Jennifer (Chad) Smith of Liberty, Missouri; son Justin (Tracy) Davis of Creston; seven grandchildren: Carter, Kaylee and Braden Smith, Paige and Payton Davis and Savanna and Alaina Davis; brother Bob (Peg) Davis of Lincoln, Nebraska; sister Sandra Cheek of Ames; brother-in-law Dave (Joyce) Johnson of Creston and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents; his father and mother-in-law, Max and Leta Johnson and two brothers-in-law, Steve Johnson and Dee Cheek.
