David “Rook” James Rooker, was born June 29, 1952, to Jim and Marie (Richmond) Rooker at Ottumwa Area Hospital. He was welcomed home by sisters, Conni and Hope. David graduated from Ottumwa High School with the class of 1971. Early on, David started college in Largo, Florida, but college wasn’t for him, Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad was. David worked for the railroad for 38 years, then a severe injury sidelined him until he retired with the disability. It was there, David met and became buddies and friends with many of you.

David loved drag racing and MOPAR. He would go to drag races anytime he could and often when he really shouldn’t have due to his health. He was that dedicated. His life was the Lord, people, cars and races. Most of all, David loved his friends from all walks of life, rich or poor, any age, any size, any color, boy or girl, man or woman, and all kids! He has always loved the Lord but felt his ministry was better served to his fellow man and serve he did! Many have come in need of encouragement, and have left with a happy heart and a face full of smiles, quite often. Anyone who has known and spoken with Rook has probably experienced that laughing sensation.

Left to cherish David’s memory are his sisters, Conni (Bob) Blessing of La Grange, Missouri, and Hope (Arnie) Van Wardhuizen of Ottumwa, Iowa, many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and numerous relatives with whom he tried very hard to keep in touch.

Preceding David in death were his parents, Jim and Marie and a number of aunts, uncles, cousins, and many of his friends.

David will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
