Jonathan Sellars, 58, of West Des Moines, died Thursday, March 24, 2022, at his home due to a heart attack.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be 12 noon Wednesday, at the Powers Funeral Home, 601 New York Avenue in Creston. Pastor Jodi Rushing will officiate. Burial will be in England. The service will be livestreamed on powersfh.com at a link under events. Visitation with family receiving friends will be from 11 a.m. to noon before the service Wednesday. Jonathan Roy Sellars was born September 14, 1963, Derbyshire, England, to Roy Victor Sellars and Rosemary (Poynton) Sellars. His early education was in England. He lived for a time in Canada and completed his BA at the University of Missouri and his Masters in Archaeology at Tulsa University in Oklahoma.
On January 1, 1994, Jonathan married Leslie Ambrosino in Lenox, Iowa. They lived in Lenox, Creston and Decorah Iowa. As an archaeologist, he first worked in the old world, in Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Oman and Yemen and then practicing New World archaeology in the Midwest, primarily in Iowa. He ran his own company with his spouse, called Consulting Archaeological Services. Jonathan was a member of the Association of Iowa Archaeologist, the Iowa Archaeological Society serving as a board member, and previous board member of the Icarian Colony in Corning Iowa.
Survivors include his wife Leslie Ambrosino of West Des Moines; his father Roy Sellars of Creston; two sisters Amanda Sellars of Hawaii, and Angela (Rob) Hargin of Greenfield, and a niece and two nephews, and numerous other extended family. Jonathan was preceded in death by his mother, Rosemary Sellars in 2019.
