Robert Denton

Robert Alan Denton, 51, of Creston, formerly of the Tampa, Florida, area, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2022, at Good Samaritan Home in Fontanelle. A memorial Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, 2022, at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Creston. Rev. Adam Westphal and Rev. Robert “ROC” O’Connor will officiate. The Service will be livestreamed.  Due to COVID concerns the family requests masks need to be, worn at all times. 

Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Creston. Open visitation with family receiving friends will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. service time Saturday, Feb. 26, 2022, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Creston. Memorials may be directed to the family or East Union wrestling. Online condolences may be given at www.powersfh.com.

Robert Alan Denton, son of Robert F. Denton and Linda Joyce (Wilson) Denton was born on Nov. 15, 1970, in Osceola, Iowa. He graduated from East Union High School in 1989. He later graduated from Iowa State University with a B.S. in broadcast journalism.

Following graduation Robert went to work for KCRG TV 9 in Cedar Rapids working as an associate producer, later as an on-air personality for 98.1 KHAK also in Cedar Rapids. He then moved to Minneapolis where he began working for Conus Communications as an assistant producer and the lead for the Weird News Tonight, during this time he moved to Hudson, Wisconsin.

In 1999 Robert returned to Creston and began working for KSIB and KOOL as a broadcaster. He later became a part of the opening crew at the Lakeside Hotel and Casino in Osceola working as a gaming dealer. He moved to Marshalltown and continued his career as a gaming dealer at the Meskwaki Casino near Tama, Iowa.

In 2004 Robert moved to the Tampa, Florida, area where he began working at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, working in several different capacities including duel rated gaming dealer, supervisor and being a Players Club Representative. He also worked at Disney World in a membership sales position. While in Florida he was a caregiver for his friend Jessica and her children while she was going through kidney transplant process, and he also hosted for charity poker nights on a circuit. He returned to Creston in 2019 to care for his parents. Robert was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Survivors include his parents, Robert F., and Linda J. Denton of Creston; two sisters, Laura (husband Rich) nieces and nephew, Ariann, Bielle, and Branden Baker of West Des Moines, Iowa. and Leasa (Edward) Hoefling of Faucet, Missouri, and many other extended family members.

Robert was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lloyd “Slim” and Helen Wilson and Ralph “Boyd” and Izora Denton, waiting for Robbie with his tail wagging was his dog Bear.
