Barbara Bentley, 91, of Diagonal, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2022, the Greater Regional Health in Creston.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022 at the Powers Funeral Home 601 New York Ave. in Creston. Pastor Tim Maxa will officiate. The service will be live streamed on the link at powersfh.com. A reception will be held at the Creston Elks Lodge following the service. Burial will be at the Bethel Cemetery south of Diagonal at a later date.
Visitation with family receiving friends 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, before the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are to be the Sharpsburg Presbyterian Church or the Bethel Cemetery. Online condolences may be given on the tribute wall at www.powersfh.com.
Barbara Ann (Buck) Bentley, daughter of Raymond R. Buck and Dorothy Stafford, was born May 6, 1930, in Mount Ayr, Iowa. Barb graduated from Mount Ayr High School.
On June 27, 1948, Barb was united in marriage to Willard “Bill” Bentley in Mount Ayr, Iowa. They settled in the Diagonal area where they farmed. When Willard entered the United States Army in 1953, Barb traveled and moved to every location that Willard was stationed, returning to Diagonal after his discharge in 1955. Together, they continued to farm.
Retiring in 1983, Barb and Willard opened Mom and Dad’s Bar in Diagonal and Willard’s Trucking. They sold the bar in 1995. In 2002, they moved to Clearfield. Barb was a member of the Sharpsburg Presbyterian Church.
Barb is survived her two sons Billy Bentley and Jim Bentley, both of Diagonal; one daughter Karen (husband Mike) Eblen of Creston; one granddaughter Kayla Bentley; special extended family member Denae England of Winterset; one brother Merritt Buck of Marietta, Georgia; two sisters-in-law Sandy Buck of Denver and Carol Lee Bentley of Diagonal and many other nieces, nephews and extended family.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents, her parents-in-law Orville and Velma Bentley; daughter-in-law Laura Bentley; three brothers Richard (Phyllis) Buck, Roland Buck (first wife Mildred) (second wife Jane) and Don Buck; a brother-in-law Bob Bentley; two sisters-in-law Wilma Buck and Marge Davis; and a niece Mary Lee Buck.
